Eating out all the time is not good information for someone with a small allowance. I was looking for a bento store in Shinjuku 6-chome and found a good one. I arrived at the following gourmet blog.
新宿3丁目 きくや マグロカツ : Tommyのきままなグルメランチ日記
What a great deal, all for 500 yen. This is good information. I read in the article that you can eat in the restaurant. It was 11:00 on a Saturday, and since there were not many people in the restaurant and the smell was not bothering me, I decided to try it out.

Near the manor on Medical University Avenue, enter next to the 7-Eleven across from Domino’s Pizza. Make a right at the 7-Eleven and the bento shop is on the left. I found it after a short walk. It is not very lively, but I hope it is ok.
Appearance of Kikuya
As I stared outside the restaurant for a while, the owner of the restaurant, who I guessed was the owner, came out from inside. I was worried about her because Google had described her as a bit strange, but she was not, and she seemed normal.
When I looked inside the restaurant, I saw a lot of bento boxes. I was told that you can’t eat in the restaurant now. It’s 11:00 a.m. now, so everything is there, but they say it will be all gone by 12:15 p.m. However, they will continue to make them, so if there are ingredients and rice available, they will sell them until about 3:00 p.m.
When I asked him what was in his lunch box, he politely told me everything. Salmon kama, loin cutlet, chicken shiso katsu, chicken something, fried peach, ginger yaki, and cream croquette. The salmon kama is rarely served in the bento.
This time, I chose the orthodox loin cutlet bento and paid 500 yen to receive my bento. The contents of the bento are as follows.
- white rice
- pickles
- Hijiki (hijiki)
- crab sticks
- cabbage
- Roast pork cutlet (main)
They will also include the following extras
- curry croquette
- boiled egg
- sprinkled with
- Miso soup base
- small amount of curry
- Yakult
All in all, a set of 12 items. This is too much to be dreaded and it won’t work. It’s good for the customers, but it’s not profitable. Even a bottle of Yakult costs 50 yen. It seems that Obachan runs this bento shop by herself. It seems that she runs a lunch box shop during the day and a bar at night.
Noel’s at the Tokyo Business Hotel also offers all-you-can-eat vegetables, soup, and dessert for as little as 750 yen. The restaurants that offer such a big discount without regard to profit are good in terms of cost performance, but I feel sorry for them.
The roast pork cutlet bento is delicious. No, I can’t say it tastes bad. They are trying so hard. Yes, but it was really delicious. Shinjuku 6-chome is a place where there are many salarymen working for big companies and university students, so a bento shop where you can eat a hearty meal for 500 yen is very useful.
However, there is still a lot of fried food, so people in their 30s and 40s should be careful. Me too. This was my first visit, so I went for the standard loin cutlet, but if I go there next time, I think I’ll avoid the fried food and go for the salmon or gingerbread.
Kikuya in Shinjuku 6-chome sells boxed lunches from 11:00 a.m., so if you want to try it, go there.
