At 12:00 on a weekday, a day so warm that I could hardly believe it was October, I went to Bons, a fried chicken bar located in the basement of Hotel Amplin, a place I had always wanted to visit as a fried chicken lover.
There was a signboard in front of the hotel, but I could not find where the restaurant was. It said “underground,” but I couldn’t tell if the underground restaurant was open or not, so I couldn’t go there until now.

Today, we checked the location in advance and entered the restaurant as soon as it opened. The spacious, stylish restaurant with a concrete floor. I was the only customer.
As soon as I entered the restaurant, I was asked to confirm lunch, so I guess many foreigners drink alcohol during the day. There are three menu items, all priced at 1,200 yen. Later, when I paid the bill, I found out that the price was 1,320 yen including tax.
The menu was not on the table, but was brought to us by the waiter, who waited in front of us, so we could not see the menu in detail. I was going to have fried chicken in the first place, so it was fine, but it would be better not to wait for our order in front of us, no matter how rattled the place was.
Water was self-serve from a water purifier, and there were no tissues or hand towels. They turned away a foreigner who came into the restaurant on the way, but he could not drink alcohol.
The karaage arrived 11 minutes and 11 seconds after the order was placed. It is not a karaage set meal, but a plate of karaage. The plate contains the following
Rice
Four small pieces of fried bean curd
A small amount of leaves
Instant miso soup
Small tofu
There is a plate type, but everything is less. This is 1,320 yen! That’s too expensive! Even FORST 6-chome right next door isn’t that expensive.
Recommended if you like fast and stylish. Not for those who want quantity. aged meat Lunch at FORST 6-chome
Try the karaage. As it says that it has won a gold medal for fried food, it is, well, just plain delicious. Crispy outside and juicy inside. It is not particularly tasty.
In the end, not a single customer came until I finished eating at 12:30. Yeah, I will never repeat this.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, I found out at the time of paying the bill that the prices on the menu do not include tax. Furthermore, you cannot pay in cash. You can only pay by credit card or PayPay.
Yes, I will never repeat my visit to this restaurant. The fried chicken is usually tasty, but the portion is small and the price of 1,320 yen is too expensive. It is by far the most expensive in the Shinjuku 6-chome, 5-chome, and Tomikucho neighborhoods. It is the worst in terms of cost performance.
That is probably why there are no customers. The only recommendation I can force out is that it is good for men and women in their 40s who are concerned about calories because it is a small amount. Also, the waitresses seem to be fluent in English, so you can practice your English conversation during your lunch break.
That said, I do not recommend it. I would not go there again. The price of 1,320 yen for four small fried chicken is too expensive.
